The world's first 12bit HDTV SDI Dual Link 4:4:4 and NTSC/PAL capture and playback card with analog video monitoring.
Blackmagic DeckLink HD Pro is the highest quality broadcast video card available, perfect for the most demanding high end television and feature film post production.
HDTV Connectivity
Supporting the highest quality video standards that exist today, DeckLink HD Pro is fully Dual Link HD-SDI 4:4:4 based using 2 channel HD-SDI inputs and outputs. SDI connections can instantly be switched to standard HD-SDI 4:2:2 or standard definition SDI.
Monitoring is built in, and uses the most incredible quality true 14 bit digital analog conversion in RGB or YUV. Unlike other solutions, analog monitoring instantly switches between HDTV and standard definition modes.
All these incredible features are packed into a high speed single slot PCI-X 133 MHz card, and for standard definition only work DeckLink HD Pro can also plug into slower 33 or 66 MHz PCI slots.
Also included is SPDIF/unbalanced AES audio input, and SPDIF/unbalanced AES audio out, audio word clock out, and TriSync or Genlock input. DeckLink HD Pro also includes Sonyô compatible RS-422 serial control port!
Incredible Quality
DeckLink HD Pro has been designed from the ground up for quality, and with the incredibly fast PCI-X 133 MHz interface, handling the high data rates of Dual Link HDTV 4:4:4 video work with ease.
Although designed for Dual Link HDTV, DeckLink HD Pro is also perfect for standard definition, and 4:2:2 HDTV video use. It's so low cost that you can purchase it for standard definition use, and it then has the power to move with you as you transition to HDTV. That's also perfect when moving between standard and high definition work in your facility.
DeckLink HD Pro features 2 channel SDI input and output that automatically switch between HDTV and standard definition SDI modes. This means you can connect to all SDI equpment or digital decks. With dual channel SDI, DeckLink HD Pro can switch into the new Dual Link HD 4:4:4 mode allowing full color resolution, and compatibility with the new Sony SR based decks.
Dual Link 4:4:4 video uses 2 HD-SDI channels to carry full color resolution and is incredible quality. Current HDTV and standard definition video formats are 4:2:2 based, so you only get half the color resolution of the original image. When running in Dual Link 4:4:4 the additional color information is carried on the second HD-SDI link, and you get full color resolution of the original film or graphics. That's perfect for critical keying, heavy effects or feature film work.
Also supported in Dual Link 4:4:4 is extra bit depth up to 12 bits per sample, perfect for feature film work!
Combined with this high quality SDI video, DeckLink HD Pro features the best analog monitoring ever designed. DeckLink HD Pro includes full RGB or YUV analog monitoring that instantly switches between standard definition and high definition modes. This means you can reconfigure without changing the connections to your monitoring, and you eliminate the high cost of HD-SDI monitoring inputs for broadcast monitors.
Because DeckLink HD Pro can be used for standard definition all the way up to HDTV and feature film work, analog monitoring quality needs to be the best possible. DeckLink HD Pro features full 14 bit precision digital to analog conversion, so you always get accurate monitoring of 12 bit log video used in feature film work. Analog monitoring is also full 4:4:4 sampling and uses an incredible 5x oversampling when used for standard definition video.
No external converter or SDI input available today matches the quality of the analog monitoring built right into every DeckLink HD Pro!

This means SCSI and Fibre Channel disk array cards keep performing at maximum speed; important when doing uncompressed video.
DeckLink firmware loads at every system boot time, so you are always running the latest firmware, and don't need to do risky "flash" style firmware updates. You can download the latest software updates free from the Blackmagic Design web site. We are constantly adding powerful new features, so you always have the benefit of our customer feedback, even after purchasing the card.
DeckLink HD Pro is the worlds first PCI-X 133 MHz 4:4:4 HDTV card, and is the only card to include incredible 14 bit RGB/YUV analog monitoring with standard definition compatibility.
Blackmagic Design's dream of affordable high end creative tools means DeckLink HD Pro is affordable for everyone. Affordability allows creativity to blossom, and DeckLink HD Pro is an industry revolution!
Independent Monitoring
DeckLink features independent connections for your monitor and broadcast deck. Even when you don't have an expensive broadcast deck available you can still have full SDI video, and SPDIF audio monitoring. That's perfect when working on real time effects such as 10 bit 3-way color correction in Final Cut Pro!
If your in a smaller facility and you hire in a deck when it's required, or your in a large post or broadcast facility where you often lose deck access when it's routed to another suite, then you will really appreciate independent monitoring. DeckLink is the only card that lets you keep working when the deck is unavailable.
DeckLink's SDI video monitoring output can be connected to any SDI video monitor, or even converted to analog for video monitoring using an external converter.
If your need analog Y, R-Y, B-Y or NTSC/PAL monitoring but don't want to purchase an external converter, then check out DeckLink Pro which is identical to the original DeckLink, however includes built in analog monitoring, and external genlock! If your connecting to analog decks then check out DeckLink SP, ideal for connecting to analog decks and broadcast systems.
DeckLink includes SPDIF/Unbalanced AES digital audio monitoring output which is compatible with common consumer audio equipment and professional audio products; such as speakers and mixing consoles. SPDIF has pro audio bits set in the data stream making it compatible with unbalanced AES/EBU audio equipment, providing incredible audio quality in both playback and capture modes.
Video Desktop
One of the most fun features of the Blackmagic DeckLink is the video desktop.
When not being used in applications such as Final Cut Pro you get a fully featured desktop display output as video from the DeckLink SDI video output. This allows you to drag and fill screen documents in applications such as Adobe Photoshop and then work on broadcast paint direct into a full broadcast monitor.
Never be surprised again when dropping those Photoshop graphics into Final Cut Pro. This is a unique feature available on all DeckLink models!
Highest Speed PCI
DeckLink HD is the first video capture card to use the latest PCI-X technology running a screaming 133 MHz, which is more than 4 times faster than older standard PCI based cards when run in Apple G5 systems. That makes HD easy, and reliable, which is why DeckLink HD is the worlds fastest selling HDTV capture card. DeckLink HD is back compatible with standard PCI 33 MHz, so you can plug into older G4 computers when running standard definition video only.
DeckLink, DeckLink Pro, and DeckLink SP use high efficiency and high speed PCI 66/33 MHz bus connections for fast 2.1 Gig bit data transfer speed, perfect for standard definition video.
Video formats
DeckLink features more video formats than any other video cards with true 10 bit uncompressed, 8 bit uncompressed, JPEG and DV.
With the incredible quality of uncompressed 10 bit video and Blackmagic's renowned codec, DeckLink is easily the world's highest quality video tool. 10 bit uncompressed is perfect when your client's demand quality as 10 bit is video perfection!
Uncompressed 8 bit, JPEG and DV playback are incredibly flexible when the high quality of 10 bit uncompressed is not required and disk space is limited.
Real Time Effects
Blackmagic DeckLink features real time effects that are great when working on long format work such as episodic television program production. Real Time effects can be updated via internet downloads; with new effects are being released constantly.
Many exciting real time effects are included with the DeckLink. These include Cross Dissolve, Non Additive Dissolve, Additive Dissolve, Fade in Fade out, Dip to Color, Sepia, Desaturate, Brightness Contrast, Proc Amp, Tint, and Gamma Correction and 3 way color correction on both 8 bit and 10 bit uncompressed modes. Realtime HDTV Down Conversion
One of the most exciting new features just released as a free update for DeckLink is real time HDTV down conversion to NTSC/PAL composite video. This allows all DeckLink models to playback full resolution HDTV projects and output them in standard definition video.
DeckLink will down convert from 1080i/29.97 to NTSC, and 1080i/50 to PAL allowing HDTV projects to be mastered to standard definition broadcast decks without the large AV sync delay caused when using external down converters. This is an unprecedented feature for a standard definition card and helps you migrate to an HD based workflow using your current standard definition equipment.
QuickTime compatible
DeckLink uses the famous Blackmagic QuickTimeô drivers and no other company has as much experience running on Mac OS X than Blackmagic Design. This means you get well proven and stable drivers from the first company to deliver a QuickTime card on Apple's OS X, and the only company to deliver a QuickTime capture card under Microsoft Windows XP.
The Blackmagic QuickTime drivers are constantly being improved to ensure compatibility with software from all vendors including companies such as Apple, Microsoft, Adobe and Discreet.
QuickTime compatibility allows any software and hardware to be mixed and matched and DeckLink makes the perfect video companion to the most powerful software tools used in the industry today.
Compatible software includes Apple Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, Shake, Discreet Combustion, iDVD, DVD Studio Pro, Color Finesse, Microcosm, Cleaner and many more.
Online JPEG
DeckLink users love Online JPEG because it uses very little disk space, so you can even capture to your internal IDE disk or FireWire external disk!
The quality of Online JPEG is incredible and is easily good enough for broadcast. This creates tremendous workflow possibilities that have never been previously available. You can even capture to many firewire disks and edit parts of your job on lower cost systems such as iMac's.
When your edit is finished, just plug in your FireWire disk and open and play out your finished project to tape. You don't even need to copy the project or media files!
That's incredible flexibility.
DV Playback
One of the most exciting formats on the DeckLink Pro is DV playback (capture available on G5 systems). You can take any DV project in applications such as Final Cut Pro and play them out to SDI video instantly, without rendering.
This allows you to cut down DV based field originated material to more manageable levels and saves huge amounts of disk space. Many projects can even be mastered as DV and then output to Digital Betacam or other higher end formats for final release.
DeckLink will automatically handle image resolution and field order differences with the DV format eliminating rendering of DV files to uncompressed formats.
DV playback allows for exciting workflow methods because it's compatible with thousands of DV cameras available today. This allows much easier integration of high-end post production with consumer grade video than before. That's a feature demanded by many clients as their video acquisition options increase. DeckLink Pro lets you easily take advantage of this flexibility.
Even when on the road, you can use FireWire equipped Powerbook systems to edit with DV. And, then using target disk mode, mount the Powerbook's internal disk on your DeckLink system and then open and play out your edit. Target disk mode is enabled by pressing the 'T key' at startup; and will let your Powerbook emulate a FireWire hard disk.
